Behind The Label

Fran Mart - Photographer & Creative Director

 1. When and how did you become a photographer and who inspired you?
I never planned on becoming a photographer; it was something I stumbled upon after losing my younger brother. Photography, particularly self-portraits, helped me process the emotions I was dealing with, almost like it found me. The experience opened my eyes to a new way of seeing the world and expressing my emotions, leading me down an unexpected path. I'm self-taught, and I'm constantly inspired by the ability to tell stories that engage the soul.

2. How would you describe your signature style?
My signature style is deeply emotional and introspective, often translating feelings into images. I aim to capture something beyond what we can see, focusing on the sensory experience of a moment. Whether I'm working on personal projects or with clients, my work is about connecting the inner and outer worlds, bringing emotion and storytelling to each image.

3. Where do you look for creative inspiration?
I find inspiration in emotions and in the world around me. I believe creativity is a journey that often begins within, and for me, it started in my childhood daydreams. Now, it comes from engaging my senses, being in nature, and letting life’s ups and downs guide my creative process. Scotland’s ever-changing landscapes and light are a constant source of inspiration.

4. What is your favorite place or location to take photography?
Scotland, without a doubt. I’m drawn to the intensity of the weather, the changing seasons, and the unique light that you find here, especially in the more remote areas. The rugged landscapes and dramatic shifts in weather give me goosebumps and keep me captivated every time. I also love Edinburgh for its timeless atmosphere; wandering through its streets feels like stepping into another era.

5. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your hopes for the future?
I’m a freelance photographer based in Edinburgh, originally from AndalucĂa, Spain. My work often involves capturing interiors and natural environments, exploring slow travel, and telling visual stories. I’m passionate about the creative process, which I see as a journey of self-expression and discovery. For the future, I hope to continue exploring new places, connecting with people through my work, and allowing my creativity to evolve with each new project. My goal is always to keep finding those moments that make time stand still.
